Approximately two kilometers from the hotel is the Benin-Nigeria border.”
The sons of ODUDUWA (the mythical ancestor of the Yoruba), the princes of ILE-IFE, embarked on a migration. This migration led them westward into Nigeria. During their journey, several kingdoms were established. Three of them separated at OKE-OYAN. These were ONISHABE from the kingdom of Savè, ONIPOPO from the kingdom of Grand-Popo, and OLIKIMOUN (Prince OWE) from the kingdom of Illikimoun of the OBALEDE dynasty. This dynasty successively settled in IJEDUKU, OBESU, AROKETU, and OKE-IDO, where OWE was crowned king. At OKE-IDO, six kings reigned: His Majesty OBA OWE, His Majesty OBA IJA, His Majesty OBA AJOJE, His Majesty OBA ERAN, His Majesty OBA OYO, and His Majesty OBA AGBOPELE ON’DOFA KOLEGU. Due to water supply issues during the reign of OBA AGBOPELE ON’DOFA KOLEGU, the population moved to the present-day Illikimoun.
Upon his death, a successor was needed. As tradition required, the IFA diviner was consulted, and the choice fell on his son EYIOSIKEFA OLU, who became OBA EDE EYIOSIKEFA OLU. EYIOSIKEFA OLU’s older brother, OKOI, the first of Kétou, moved towards Kétou, leaving his wife, who was almost due, near his mother OBOYE at what is now Illikimoun. The woman gave birth while her husband was still at IROKO-OYIN. The population cared for this child, which led to the name of the village ILUKEMO, which later became ILLIKIMMOU, and now ILLIKIMOUN.
